POSITION DETAILS

Position Summary

At CIRCOR, the quality of our products is critical to our customers and our success. To ensure that our customers have the highest quality valves, our Welders for CIRCOR support the production of our valves by preparing the surfaces of castings and various materials for welding utilizing air arc gouging, grinding and various other methods and welding a wide variety of materials utilizing gas, GMAW, GTAW and SMAW welding processes. By having the best Welders, we are able to produce an industry leading product that is used around the world in the Oil & Gas industry.

 

Principal Activities

  • Uses understanding of welding characteristics and requirements to weld a wide variety of materials including, but not limited to castings and forgings.
  • Follows all established safety and quality procedures, and is active in promoting a culture of safety and quality in all activities.
  • Show a commitment to integrity and compliance in all activities and operations, and be willing to identify and resolve issues that are discovered.
  • Welds metals utilizing gas, GMAW, GTAW and SMAW welding processes.
  • Welds components in flat, vertical or overhead positions.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
  • Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Performs welding preparation utilizing air arc gouging and grinding.
  • Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisor.
  • Utilize skills required in repair welding to fill holes, fill casting defects, surface buildup and weld metal overlay for wear and corrosion resistant requirements.
  • Utilizes various testing methods including non-destructive testing to identify and locate material defects.
  • Participates in development and acceptance process of certified welding procedures.
  • Maintains all necessary charts, labor reports, time cards and other documents as required by ISO-9001:2008 and MFI work instructions.
  • Maintains work area to be neat, clean and organized for safe and efficient use.

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical equipment and is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and non-toxic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as earplugs, safety glasses, goggles, steel toes shoes and gloves may be required as necessary to safely perform the essential functions of this position.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Be familiar with or able to learn API 1104 welding requirements.
  • Be familiar with all welding abbreviations, BBE, ERW, DSAW, etc.
  • Be familiar with welding requirements and techniques required for various materials to achieve requirements of materials and to avoid weld cracking and minimize material distortion.
  • Ability to analyze results from a welding operation and adjust parameters to achieve required results.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing assembly environment, with additional preference to a valve manufacturing history.
  • Ability to deliver on production needs and identify improvements in production operations and effectively communicate both opportunities and solutions.
  • Ability to work with others to accomplish common goals and make the business successful.
  • Displays flexibility in approach to work scope and daily activities to ensure the site and company meets its production and financial goals.
  • Ability to select and utilize the correct welding procedure for a specific requirement.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, procedures and instructions satisfactorily to successfully perform assigned duties in a safe manner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other employees on a variety of topics.
  • Ability to deal with problems through creative solutions.
  • Experience with Lean or Six Sigma programs a plus.

 

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 4 years of experience with welding and related activities. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be:

 

  • Frequently lift and or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk and hear
  • Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
