POSITION DETAILS

Position Summary

The Sr. Principal Engineer will provide technical advice and supervision to the Tampa engineering team to execute components and systems design projects as well as other growth initiatives. The Sr. Principal Engineer will closely work with program management as well other site and group functions regarding manpower, cost and scheduling needs. The position will also provide marketing and sales support as required including leading proposals and customer presentations.

Principal Activities

  • Perform required engineering analysis using modeling / computational techniques to specify critical mechanical subsystem components during C&F phase design related to packaging, materials selection, sizing, component specification. Engineering analysis may be structural, thermal, and/or fluid in nature as required for the product function.
  • Work in cross-functional team environment with other engineers, marketing, process quality, reliability, materials selection, manufacturing, and procurement personnel to develop optimal solutions to tradeoffs inherent in the product realization process in a competitive market.
  • Conduct design for manufacturability, design for assembly, and design for service engineering assessments of product concepts at various development phases.
  • Initiate and manage the product verification test cycle as needed to verify performance of product to technical specifications.
  • Lead technical design reviews (in mechanical & related disciplines) for internal peer audience as part of stage-gate product development process (NPD).
  • Perform detailed mechanical design of product components including GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and drawing review to ANSI Y14.5.
  • Handle engineering requirements for product enhancements, customer specials, technical support and/or sustaining engineering activities in concert with mechanical designers.
  • Perform problem solving as required to meet objectives in spite of setbacks.

Job Requirements

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Candidate should have strong analytical skills in mechanical engineering related disciplines with prior cross-disciplinary exposure to control valve technology, product verification testing, and manufacturing process development.
  • Candidate should have strong technical communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) with a desire to spread best-in-class techniques and practices through the organization.
  • Candidate should have knowledge and “hands-on” experience with severe service control valve design and fabrication, along with experience in design for cost principles.
  • Successful background in R&D, product development in a multidisciplinary environment, or fast-paced small company engineering experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering or physics including vacuum technology, structural mechanics, and fluid dynamics, materials science, and control systems.
  • Interface with Marketing, Documentation, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing.
  • Communicate program objectives, team membership and team member responsibilities to the entire organization.
  • Ensure conformance to the NPD (New Product Development Process).
  • Lead technical design and program reviews for internal critical peer review.
  • Perform problem solving as required to meet objectives in spite of setbacks.
  • Assure technical success of the project by managing all mechanical, instrumentation, quality, vendor, cost, quality and fabrication issues and schedules.
  • Ensure that “fitness for use” and/or “customer satisfaction” aspects of the product are covered, including the specification, modeling, design, and test verification of product safety, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability in the field.
  • Initiate and manage the test plan for all projects.
  • Handle requirements for product enhancements, customer specials, technical support and/or sustaining engineering until hand-off to manufacturing.
  • Intermediate level proficiencies with the Microsoft Office Suite (Office, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Proficiency with fluid and stress analysis tools (i.e. Ansys) considered a plus
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis (SOLIDWORKS preferred) and other advanced modeling and analytical techniques.
  • Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Experience with CAT (LabView preferred).
  • Experience with desuperheating (Ring Style, Venturi, Probe, or Steam Assist) is highly preferred. 
  • Program management experience is desirable

 

 

Education

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university required. Other related disciplines will be considered based on the type of experience of the candidate. Relevant mechanical design experience with a minimum of 15 years experience.

 

  • Masters of Science in a related field desirable.
