BUSINESS:  Refinery Valves - DeltaValve

LOCATION:  Sandy, Utah

DIRECT REPORTING: Sr. Manager, Engineering



Position Summary

The Project Engineer, with guidance from senior team members, releases customer submittal drawings, material specifications, and service details to define product commitments. The position interfaces and directs engineering resource to generate designs, weld procedures, material selections, calculations, manufacturing drawings, and production Bills of Material in compliance with project commitments and customer specifications as directed by senior team members. The incumbent will be required to travel to customer locations domestically and internationally, as needed, and will need to maintain an active passport and any required visas for travel.

This position has the responsibility of representing DeltaValve Engineering in the technical support of Delayed Coker product lines. It is the role of the Project Engineers to interface with Sales and Project Management teams and assist them in addressing our customer’s technical concerns and needs. Project Engineers will interpret customer specifications, attend project kick-off meetings, and effectively communicate and negotiate discrepant points. The Project Engineer is responsible for containment of scope of standard product offerings to eliminate unnecessary work and reduce commercial costs.

 Principal Activities

  • Provides mechanical engineering support necessary to design complex mechanical equipment and systems and to investigate, evaluate and develop new applications for existing equipment and systems.
  • Analyzes assigned tasks to provide estimates of manpower and material required to complete.
  • May direct field operation and maintenance activities of mechanical equipment/systems installations.
  • Evaluates operational systems and design modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in system requirements.
  • With guidance from senior team members, plans, organizes, and conducts the development of each assignment; coordinates manpower assigned to each activity and coordinates the activities of group involved in various stages of overall program to ensure effective integration.
  • Provides technical guidance to personnel involved with producing design fabrication drawings.
  • Reviews and corrects drawings to ensure proper engineering techniques and required specification have been utilized.
  • Develops, releases and maintains documentation in accordance with company and contractual requirements.
  • Reviews, writes and edits reports such as evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals, etc. to provide recommendations, conclusions and other data.
  • Analyzes complex assemblies and provide justified recommendations to management.

Job Requirements


Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Skill Sets:

  • Ability to analyze components using FEA software, MathCad, and/or excel spreadsheets as appropriate.
  • Working knowledge of blue prints/schematics, piping drawings, site elevation drawings, manufacturing prints and drafting knowledge. (ANSI Y14.5.)
  • Understanding of Bill of Material structuring.
  • Microsoft Office experience. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.)
  • Familiar with solid modeling techniques, finite element analysis, and MathCad or similar.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing practices and processes.

  • Release Customer Drawing Packets for project scope by commitment date (Cycle Time).
  • Release Production BOM’s and manufacturing prints for project by a pre-determined date to maintain project production schedule.


  • Completeness of Customer Drawing information to define product and reflect project scope.
  • Able to provide correct inputs to generate design calculations and engineering documentation and verification.
  • Able to assure correctness of Bills of Material relating to Customer Drawings.

 Cycle Time:

  • Active proponent in developing continual process improvements.
  • Assist in reducing “turn-around” of customer submittal drawings and approvals.
  • Strive to minimize time to production releases of Bills of Material and Drawings.
  • Minimize time required for acquisition of engineering data used in calculations.

 Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other technically related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of engineering experience in valve, petrochemical process, or related industries.
