ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

BUSINESS:   Industrial  

LOCATION:   Monroe, NC

DIRECT REPORTING: Director of Engineering, Defense

FUNCTIONAL REPORTING: Defense Pump Engineering
 

POSITION DETAILS

Position Summary

Manager engineering for Defense Pump Engineering located in Monroe NC.  There are 8 direct reports (2 in NC, 6 in MA).  The product environment is low-volume, engineered-to-order (ETO), & highly custom solution development for mainly the US Navy.  Security clearance in required.

Principal Activities

  • Build a high-performing team which reduces engineering time in project execution
  • Develop bench strength of an engineering team highly trained on designing pump for defense
  • Develop engineering processes that are customer focused
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers
  • Provide a multi-facility oversite for the defense products
  • Provides accessibility to functional leadership and senior leadership exposure.
  • Opportunity to improve functional excellence
  • Build communication between all facilities and engineering support between all NA facilities that deal with defense pumping products
  • Help create defense engineering standard for all sites for pumps
  • Team capability gaps.  Limited understanding of factors influencing product performance
  • Multiple production sites
  • Improve operational excellence by lading communication and helping build robust engineering processes.
  • Performance management.  Full team assessment required with performance measures/SMART goals deployed – top-grade as needed.
  • Talent & skill development and training of the team
  • Create a robust defense engineering team that is customer focused
  • Efficient resource management/allocation to support ETOs
  • Implement visual management of project progress

Education & Experience

Education Requirements

4-year Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Masters preferred

Technical Requirements

Knowledge of Engineered products

Knowledge of BOMs, ERP systems

Knowledge of acoustics

Knowledge of Navy customers, product design methods

Experience Requirements

5+ Years leading and managing technical teams
