POSITION DETAILS

Position Activities

Develops and manages sales activities with prospective and existing direct customer accounts within the defense market. Responsible for sale of pumps, valves, actuators, controls and systems ensuring customers are informed of new and existing products, features and benefits, prices available support systems and services. Develops long-term relationships with key customer accounts. Acts as “voice of the customer” to the organization. Meets established sales quotas by driving business levels into the direct channel. Handles large major accounts whose requirements may be complex, technical, and have long-term completion

Principal Activities

    • Calls on management representatives such as engineers, architects, or other professional and technical personnel at shipyards, OEM’s, and other establishments, to influence prospective clients of desirability and practicability of products or services offered.
    • Identifies, penetrates and closes new business opportunities.
    • Builds new relationships and networks with new clients and within existing client organizations
    • Provides technical services to clients relating to use, operation, and maintenance of equipment.
    • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Internet Web sites, and other sources.
    • Travels throughout assigned territory to call on existing and prospective customers to seek orders, talks with customers on sales floor and by phone.
    • Provides technical training to employees of client.
    • Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
    • Represents the company at defense industry organizations
    • Reviews specifications, drawings, plans, and other customer documents to develop and prepare proposals and quotations.
    • Conducts on-site surveys
    • Proposes changes and/or upgrades in equipment, processes, or use of materials or services which would result in cost savings or improvement in customer operations.
    • Develops sales or service proposals and/or contracts for products or services.
    • Quotes products, prices and terms & conditions based on the defense industry requirements
    • Performs project management functions for major contracts including contract review and dissemination of flow down requirements, tracking of progress and document submittals
    • Works in a “customer centric team” concept to build customers solutions
    • Assists VP Defense with strategies to drive new business.
    • Works with Product Support and Customer care teams to keep account activities up to date.
    • Develops and manages sales strategies and identifies new market growth opportunities.
    • Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.
    • Attends trade shows.

 

 

Job Requirements

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

 Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Due to the nature of our defense products, must be a US Citizen and be capable of obtaining a secret government clearance.


    The individual must be willing to travel between 20 & 30% of the time. Requires a valid driver’s license.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    Bachelor’s degree (BS) in engineering, or other science related discipline from a four-year college or university is required. Ten or more year’s related experience in defense sales & contracts is required. Must be familiar with engineered valves, actuators and controls. Computer literate and able to perform word processing, develop and utilize spreadsheet & database software, and be able to develop written and graphical presentations. Must be willing to learn security, safety, and environmental protocols and use them as specified by Colfax, customers (for entry to their properties) and when included in solicitations, contract specifications and codes.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Ability to manipulate mathematical concepts commensurate with those used in Engineering.

    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The individual must be willing to travel between 20 & 30% of the time. Requires a valid driver’s license.
