Senior Project Mechanical Engineer

BUSINESS: Refinery Valves - DeltaValve


REPORTS TO: Sr. Manager, Engineering

The Sr. Project Engineer approves and releases customer submittal drawings, material specifications, and service details to determine product commitments. The position interfaces and directs engineering resource to create designs, weld procedures, material selections, calculations, manufacturing drawings, and production Bills of Material in compliance with project commitments and customer specifications. You will periodically travel to customer locations domestically and internationally and will need to maintain an active passport and any required visas for travel.

You will have the responsibility of representing DeltaValve Engineering in the technical support of Delayed Coker products. You will partner with team members and customers and assist them in addressing project technical concerns and needs. You will interpret customer specifications, attend project kick-off meetings, and communicate and negotiate discrepant points. You will manage the scope of standard product offerings to eliminate unnecessary work and reduce commercial costs.

You Will:

  • Provide guidance and expertise in mechanical engineering to design complex mechanical equipment and systems and to evaluate and develop new applications for existing equipment and systems.
  • Analyze assigned tasks to provide estimates of work hours and material required to support the project schedules.
  • Prepare engineering specific schedules for accomplishing tasks.
  • Evaluate operational systems and designs modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in system requirements.
  • Plan the development of each assignment; coordinate work hours assigned to each activity and the activities of groups involved in the different stages of the program to ensure integration.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members and customers to ensure sound engineering principles are applied and required specifications have been used to the design of fabrication drawings and customer solutions.
  • Develop, release, and maintain documentation following company and contractual requirements.
  • Review, write, and edit reports such as evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals to provide recommendations, conclusions and other data.
  • May direct field operation and maintenance activities of mechanical equipment/systems installations.
  • Mentor peers and work to further knowledge to improve skills.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of our products, processes, and business.
  • Work with deadlines, prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment.

Job Requirements

You Have:

  • Working knowledge of blue prints/schematics, piping drawings, site elevation drawings, manufacturing prints and drafting knowledge. (ANSI Y14.5.)
  • Understanding of Bill of Material structuring.
  • Familiarity with Solidworks.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • A positive, respectful, and collaborative manner.
  • Skills in negotiation, persuasion, and building agreement.
  • Technical competency and understanding of complex products and mechanical engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with applications in hazardous areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Project management skills with experience achieving deliverable milestones.
  • Knowledge of complex concepts and can explain them in simple terms.
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience in valve, petrochemical process, or related industries.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in project/application engineering role.
  • Experience in Oil and Gas or similar applications.
  • Preference given to applicants that have a Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with ASME B31.3 Piping code and ASME BPVC VIII div 1 and 2 code
  • Experience writing technical documents including Installation and Operations Manuals, Technical Bulletins, Procedures, and written informal communications
  • Experience working with foreign customers across multiple cultures and varying value systems
