Position Summary

To execute and manage engineering projects, leading staff, as required, to achieve agreed objectives.

Principal Activities

  • Seventy/thirty percent split between design and project management. With main focus on design.
  • Size, design, perform preliminary performance, create drawings & BOM, and test of hydraulics or pneumatic valves.
  • To undertake design, applications, engineering and project management activities covering both industrial and defense markets.
  • Lead the execution of engineering projects, liaising with sales, the customer and other stakeholders to define the product specification.  Then, generating personally, or supervising the generation by others, of all the concept design, detail drawing, and manufacturing information together with any product support documentation that may be required under the contract.
  • For some projects, active participation in development testing will be necessary.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction for all assigned staff.
  • Execute the work in accordance with good engineering practices to ensure a technically compliant and safe product that meets all applicable standards and statutory directives that apply to our industry and type of product.
  • Provide sales and commercial support, as well as production support appropriate at all stages of the product lifecycle.
  • Contribute to business improvement activities, specifically Kaizen events and problem-solving activities.

Job Requirements

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Hydraulic and/or pneumatic valves
  • Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T
  • Experience with aerospace materials, processes & practices
  • Familiarity with RTCA DO-160 & MIL-STD-810G
  • Familiarity with DFMA
  • Technical writing including test procedures
  • Project delivery – at or within agreed project time-line
  • Project costs - at or within budget level
  • Support on time delivery - at or above target level
  • Maintain closure rate at agreed levels of engineering related Corrective Action Reports (CAR’s) and In-Service Defect Reports (ISDR’s)
  • Experience working in AS9100 QMS environment, or similar such as ISO 9001.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, VAVE, DFA, DVP&R, PVP and Risk Assessment.
  • Ability to work in a cross functional environment and comfortable driving collaboration of internal and external stakeholders in pursuit of project timing, technical and budget objectives.
  • Accomplished in conflict management and strong interpersonal skill and communication ability, both verbal and in writing.
  • Understanding of Make/Buy decisions and ability to assist Supply Chain with supplier evaluation, selection and management.
  • Ideal candidate will be self-motivated and interested in learning products lines across full A&D portfolio in order to support growth objectives.

Education & Experience

  • An engineering graduate from an accredited college or university with 5 – 10 years of experience of design, development and project management.  Preferably with high pressure pneumatic and hydraulic valves and systems, electromechanical systems or motorized devices.
  • Familiarity with 3D and 2D SolidWorks.
  • Experience with stress analysis a plus.
  • Past experience working in a Phase/Gate New Product Introduction system a plus.
  • Formal qualifications to degree level or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
