PLC Programmer


BUSINESS: Refinery Valves- TapcoEnpro

LOCATION: Channelview, TX 

DIRECT REPORTING: Sr. Project Manager, Engineering 



Position Summary

The PLC Programer provides PLC/HMI programming to support the design, implementation, startup, and support of equipment that is provided and/or supported by TapcoEnpro. Maintain TapcoEnpro’s integrity, professionalism, and profitability through interaction with vendors, internal personnel, and customers.


Principal Activities

  • Read and understand P&ID’s, loop diagrams, process flow diagrams, cause and effect matrices
  • Prepare written control narratives.
  • Review hardware and software designs.
  • Practical experience implementing systems and developing PLC code.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision keeping management informed with timely project status reports.
  • Assist in the development of Project Functional Technical Specifications, Testing Documents, etc.
  • Develop HMI software applications.
  • Develop PLC software programs.
  • Design Control Panels.
  • Hands-on controls systems programming and installation.
  • Assist in the startup and commissioning of PLC systems.
  • Configure/calibrate field instrumentation and other equipment.
  • Ability to quickly assess and resolve conflicts and complaints and provide appropriate follow-up.


Job Requirements


Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Drafting in AUTOCAD is preferred.
  • Strong Computer skills (including MS office)
  • Allen Bradley PLC programming experience is required.
  • Siemens, Triconex, & Modicon PLC programming experience is preferred.
  • Experience with developing HMI’s (FactoryTalk View, Wonderware).
  • Experience with low voltage industrial electrical and/or instrumentation systems.
  • Experience with motor control (Across the Line, Variable Frequency Drive, Soft Starters).


Experience and Education

  • High School Diploma required
  • Associates degree preferred 
  • PLC programming and electrical equipment design.
  • At least 5 to 7 years of related experience as a PLC programmer.
